On Wednesday (August 13), Radiohead announced the release of Hail to the Thief Live Recordings 2003-2009, a 12-track compilation capturing live performances of songs from their sixth studio album recorded between 2003 and 2009 in Buenos Aires, London, Amsterdam, and Dublin. Prompted by frontman Thom Yorke’s work on the Royal Shakespeare Company’s Hamlet Hail to the Thief theatrical production, the band revisited these live recordings, which inspired them to mix and release the collection. “I was shocked by the kind of energy behind the way we played and it really helped me find a way forward,” Yorke says of the recordings, while adding “It has all been a very cathartic process, we very much hope you enjoy them.” The album, mixed by Ben Baptie and mastered by Matt Colton, is now available to stream, with CDs and a limited-edition vinyl pressing – available in cyan, red, or black variants – set for release on October 31. To promote the project, Radiohead shared a 2009 live video of “There, There” from Buenos Aires. (Billboard)
